Friday 28th July

Down the Rabbit Hole

This workshop appeals to the wild imagination of children and shows them there is no limit to what they can achieve if they listen to their creativity. With readings from classic tales and discussions of other strange worlds in literature, the children will be immersed in the world of the weird and wonderful, preparing them for entry into their own fictional worlds. Who knows where their imaginations will take them?

ART AND WRITING FUN 1 – Treasures

The ultimate way for your child to unlock their creativity…… art and creative writing all in the same workshop! This workshop is run by a Story Room writer and a qualified art teacher with 18 years experience of teaching art to primary aged children.

A workshop about treasures! At The Story Room we treasure words more than anything and poetry is a great way of using words in the most creative of ways. With inspiration from art, music and our outdoor garden we will find treasures to write about but what will we make to put our precious words into?

The English Rebellion

Wednesday 9th August 

Secrets and Magic…

“Whoso pulleth out this sword of this stone is the rightwise born king of all England.” The legend of King Arthur

In the workshop we will look at the exciting elements of the legend. Your young writers will extract these elements and adapt them to write into their own legends –  all with a sprinkling of magic.

Summer Poetry 

In our poetry workshops we help the children discover something that they already have: natural talent for writing poetry.   Through poetry readings and class games we encourage them to explore the world in a way that they never have before, resulting in them writing some unique and original poems.

ART AND WRITING FUN 2 – Characters

The ultimate way for your child to unlock their creativity…… art and creative writing all in the same workshop! This workshop is run by a Story Room writer and a qualified art teacher with 18 years experience of teaching art to primary aged children.

 With inspiration from music and classic children’s literature we will venture into our imagination and write stories inspired by classic children’s literature. Our young writers and artists will make and design 3D characters to accompany their stories.

Lost and Found 

This workshop is cloaked in mystery… The children will have fun taking part in a hunt … But what will the children find? What will they do with what they find? How will they write it into their story?

Thursday  24th August 

ART AND WRITING FUN 3 – King of the Castle

The ultimate way for your child to unlock their creativity…… art and creative writing all in the same workshop! This workshop is run by a Story Room writer and a qualified art teacher with 18 years experience of teaching art to primary aged children.

In this workshop our young writers and artists will be inspired by the work of a famous artist to write stories and produce their own masterpieces. The children will have access to props and music to help them explore their creativity.

Time: 1000am to 1.00pm (5-8 yrs)  AND  (9-12 yrs)  – children will paint and write with their age groups – in separate groups.

Friday 25th August

The Bigger Picture 

In this workshop we will look at a stories that are told with a few words or no words at all. With the use of music and props  we will accompany your child on a sensory journey  to create stories using their own words.

Tuesday 29th August

Who’s There?

“I leaned across a heap of tea chests and shone the torch into the space behind and that’s when I saw him.” David Almond – Skellig

When Michael moves house he finds a strange ‘man’, covered in dead bluebottles and cobwebs in his garage. He wants Michael to get him some aspirin and Chinese Food.

In this workshop we will have fun inventing characters and imaginary spaces?  What will your child find hiding in the dark corners of their imagination?

(The children do not have to have read Skellig to enjoy this workshop).

Wednesday 30th  August

I Don’t Know What to Write….

Staring at a blank page can be truly frightening for any writer and for some children it is really daunting.  Through short exercises and readings this workshop will encourage  your child to open their imaginations to the inspiration that is around them….  it is often found in the strangest of places!

SUMMER WRITING COMPETITION! Each child attending our summer workshops will have the opportunity to submit their best piece of work (written in the workshops) to be entered into our Summer Writing Competition.

1st prize in each age category –  A free Story Room workshop and a £10.00 book voucher.

2nd prize in each age category – A £10.00 book voucher.

Runner-up in each age category  – Your story published on The Story Room website.

All winning entries will be posted onto our website.

Fee: £25.00 for all creative writing workshops

£40.00 for art and writing workshops.

There is a ten per cent discount for siblings who book onto the same workshop date.
