SUMMER AT THE STORY ROOM

This summer our workshops are all at the wonderful FRIENDS HOUSE where, weather permitting, we will venture into the gardens for storytelling, inspiration and recreation. ( Please scroll to the end of the page for a map). Please read below for our Summer schedule. There is something for everyone! All abilities very welcome.

Timings: 10.00am to 11.30am 5 to 7 year olds   OR   11.45am to 1.45pm 8 to 12 year olds.

Fees: £23.00 per session for 5 to 7 year olds/£28.00 per session for 8 to 12 year olds.

WEEK ONE - AROUND THE WORLD

This summer we will take your young writers on a journey of discovery,  looking at how different countries’ folktales and ways of telling stories reflect the culture, folklore and customs of the people. Folktales are stories that have been passed down from generation to generation. In our workshops we will set our imaginations free to write stories that will be read out loud to family and friends all summer and beyond…

WEEK TWO- LUCKY DIP

Stories need characters, settings, dialogue, plots and dazzling language. Plunge into the unknown of our lucky dip workshops and see what aspects of story writing your child will learn and what wondrous stories they will develop and write.

WEEK THREE - IMAGINATION ADVENTURES

This week, let’s fire up our imaginations, stretch our language skills and discover new stories and genres. Whether we are in a land of witches and wizards or trying to solve mysteries, our imaginations are limitless… let’s explore them!

WEEK FOUR - POETRY WEEK

Let’s discover the fun and freedom of writing poetry!  We will introduce the children to poets old and new, experiment with imaginative language and learn poetic styles and techniques. From traditional methods of writing poetry to poetry games we will show them how immensely rewarding and enjoyable writing poetry can be.
