Would you expect a student to continue attending every week during term time all academic year?

Yes, to get the full benefit of the course, we would expect a child to stay with the course until their exams in September. We start off learning the foundations for the English and VR papers and then move on to practice papers, where they apply what they learn. The course is a comprehensive course – your child will not need additional English tuition with this course. We do not cover maths at all.

Can I also attend other Story Room workshops while I am on this course?
Yes, we welcome children to our Book Clubs and Creative Writing Workshops- reading is very important for 11 plus exams success and the writing workshops will give them a chance to apply what they are learning and have fun writing.

What do you cover?
We cover all aspects of VR for the schools your children are applying to. We teach English Comprehension skills and creative writing skills, always keeping in mind the schools your children are applying to. Our philosophy is to improve your child’s English so that they are confident enough and versatile enough to sit any entrance exam.

Is there any homework?
Yes,  there will be homework set every session that will take your child between 1-3 hours to complete throughout the week (depending on the time of year). This will include a mix of VR practice, vocabulary learning, comprehensions and creative writing, depending on what we cover in class. Homework will be communicated to the parents by email at the end of every session .

Will I receive feedback?
Yes, full feedback will be written on your child’s homework and any issues that arise in class will be communicated by email. There will be a short parents’ session at the beginning of the course for any questions and for advice on how to help your child. The course tutor will also be available before or after class where appropriate.
