Every year National Libraries run a Summer Reading Challenge in association with The Reading agency.
This year’s theme is Creepy House (www.creepy-house.org.uk) ! You can join the scheme by going into any Enfield Library and signing up – it’s free! You will be encouraged to read 6 books and those that complete this task will receive prizes and be entered into a prize draw. If you need help choosing a book the website has a Book Sorter. You tell it what you are interested in and it comes up with suggestions of books for you to read.
The Library is a great way of trying new books. If you take home a book and if, after a few chapters, you don’t feel like it is for you then can simply return it and try another! I have borrowed and read lots of books, from librarys, that I never would have bought in a bookshop and am glad I did so.
So be brave, try different types of books – you may be surprised … and if you sign up to the Reading Challenge you will gain some (stinky!) stickers along the way.
There are competitions and games on the website too.
If you read a book that you would like to review, don’t forget to tell us about it at The Story Room. You can write us a review for the WHAT SHOULD I READ page? and if you are booked onto one of OUR WORKSHOPS then we will be happy to have a chat about books that you are reading.
