Whether I’m hiding from fearsome monsters in a dark forest or befriending a polar bear, there’s a new world to discover in every Story Room workshop. What a pleasure to spend Saturday mornings going on adventures, exploring the amazing world around us, thrilling and scaring each other with our unruly imaginations.
I am proud to work with the Story Room where the priorities are clear: creativity and fun come first, while spelling and grammar follow naturally with practice. The joy of hearing one’s own story come alive as you read it to your friends is a powerful achievement, and I’m constantly astounded by the originality and humour of six-year-olds. Along the way, we’re seeing children gain in confidence and self-belief, embarking on a voyage of story writing that is both rewarding and exciting.
My journey with children began as a volunteer mentor to a child in foster care. This fulfilling experience led me away from a career in University Research Administration to working in schools, supporting pupils with special educational needs (SEN) in a secondary school and subsequently at a primary level. For nearly a decade, I’ve been a primary English and maths tutor, experiencing the satisfaction of helping children and families achieve their goals, whether it’s increased confidence in a subject or gaining admission to a desired school.
Sharing stories with my own three children has been one of life’s greatest gifts. Despite the challenges of interesting boys in books amidst digital temptations, authors who took us into battles, to magical lands and introduced us to captivating characters have been a blessing. I look forward to meeting and working with your child, sharing my love of stories and helping them discover their hidden gems.
I hold a degree in Politics from Loughborough University, and a Masters in Nationalism, Society and Culture from Middlesex University.
