Writing Workshops for Secondary Students – Start date: 20th September

Dear Young Writers

Do you like creative writing and want to write in a friendly and relaxed environment?

Do you find it hard to know where to start?

Do you want to feel more confident about your writing ability?

Do you want feedback on your writing?

Or Do you simply want to try something new?

If you answered YES to one or more of these questions then these workshops are for you!

The workshops are run by Allan Boroughs (author of Ironheart and Bloodstone – Macmillan) and IronheartHelena Steel who both have considerable experience of writing with teenagers and who are passionate about writing and the benefits that it brings.

What will I achieve?

During the workshops we will explore different aspects of writing.

THEME: EXPLORING WRITING STYLES

During the workshops we will explore and experiment with different genres and styles of writing from Gothic Horror to Poetry. We will discuss current YA books and help your young writer find their own voice in writing.

Our aim is that the young writers try out new styles of writing, learn where to find inspiration for their stories and develop  the ability to give constructive feedback to others. Your young writer will write a piece of writing in each session, which they can edit and finish at home. They will be encouraged to read their work out in the session and will receive feedback and email support over the course of the 4 weeks.

Who is the course for?

The course is aimed at students in years 7, 8, 9 and 10 of secondary school.

We welcome both enthusiastic and reluctant writers.

The Story Room is dyslexia and dyspraxia friendly, so if you need a scribe in the session, please let us know in advance. We are able to provide one scribe per session.
