Why Adults Should Read Children’s Books……..
I go through phases of only reading children’s literature. Books written for children and young adults make me feel young again and transport me back to my childhood. I loved reading as a child and there are many books that I want to revisit, to enjoy again and to see if they are as good as I remembered. There are also many books that I never read as a child and I wouldn’t want to miss out on and many wonderful books being released every year that I want to discover.
When I am particularly tired or don’t feel I have time to read, reading a child’s book is easy and fun and quick, so I need never be without a book on the go. Some children’s books are much better than books written for adults!
For adults with children there are added benefits to reading children’s books:
- We all know that if a child see their parents reading they are more likely to read. If they see you reading and enjoying children’s books they may be even more likely to read themselves.
- If you ask your child to recommend a book that they have read it will give you something to share with each other and your child may even feel proud that you are reading something he has suggested.
- Children are inquisitive. They will want to know why you are reading a child’s book and may want to share the experience with you. You could read the same book independently of each other and have ‘family book club’ or read it together to share in the story. Either way is a way to bond and share literature together.
- It is way of connecting with young people and seeing what interests them now. You can also pre-read books to check if their content is suitable for the reading age of your child.
