Tuesday 25th July CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 1,2,3 CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 4,5,6 A WORLD OF WORDS Today we are going to have fun with alliteration. We will look at how it can enhance poetry and stories and just be fabulous fun too. Tantalised by the theme? Then tune in for some for truly terrific tales.
Thursday 27th July CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 1,2,3 CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 4,5,6 NONSENSE POETRY Despite its name, nonsense poetry makes sense most of the time, just not always.We will look at the masters of nonsense poetry from Edward Lear to Spike Milligan and see why it is that this art form endures, enthuses readers and writers alike and how we can become masters of it ourselves.
Tuesday 1st August CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 1,2,3 CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 4,5,6 ADAPTING STORIES Picture books are such an intrinsic part of our childhood, but what if these stories adapted and grew as we did? In this workshop we will be looking at an all time favourite children’s picture book  and re-writing it for an older audience.
Thursday 3rd August CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 1,2,3 CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 4,5,6 SUPER INVENTIONS Does your child dream of riding in Ian Fleming’s Chitty Chitty Bang Bang or trying out Alexander MccCall Smith’s Banana Machine? Chewing Willy Wonka’s three course dinner chewing gum or travelling in Ross Welford’s Time Machine (with a hamster!).  Today we will roll back our sleeves, creating weird and wonderful inventions of our own. Who knows what trouble they will get us into… our out of!
Tuesday 8th August CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 1,2,3 CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 4,5,6 TREE TALES Not only do trees support and sustain life they are also central to many wonderful children’s stories, books and poems.  The Magic Faraway tree seems to be so many children’s favourite book. So if your child likes nature and wants to learn more about trees and how to incorporate them into their stories and poetry, then this is the workshop for them.
Thursday 10th August CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 1,2,3 CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 4,5,6 ROYAL STORIES 2023 has been a big year in history with King Charles’ Coronation and with it comes lots of inspiration for writers. Today we will some right royal fun delving into the jewels of our imaginations.
Tuesday 15th August CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 1,2,3 CURRENT SCHOOL YEAR 4,5,6 LUCKY DIP In this session we will delve into another of our favourite workshops of the year and repeat them for a new audience. No child repeats the same workshop with us.

Helena Steel founded the Story Room in 2013 and has never looked back. She has tutored children for their 11-plus exams for the past 17 years and is a partner at www.succeed11plusmocks.co.uk She is in awe of children’s minds; how they can absorb and retain information, their brilliant creativity and how they can improve across the whole curriculum (including foreign languages, science and maths) with a little help with their English. She studied Law at UCL, is a qualified solicitor, a published poet and has been a judge on the BBC 500 words competition.
