Ten years ago (in May – I thought it was June!) I started The Story Room. Never in my wildest dreams did I think that it would grow into what it is today! I am super proud of what we have all achieved – and by ‘all’ I mean our workshop leaders, everyone who has ever sent their children to our club, and most of all the children who come and write the stories and poetry.
I (and all our workshop leaders) have been privileged to share in not only their words (and it is a real honour!) but in their lives too. Some children have stayed with us from year 3 all the way to their GCSEs. I have loved watching our alumni children grow into the fine adults they are.
I am a much richer person for the friendships that I have made along the way and the memories I have and hope to be still here in another 10 years!

Helena Steel founded the Story Room in 2013 and has never looked back. She has tutored children for their 11-plus exams for the past 17 years and is a partner at www.succeed11plusmocks.co.uk She is in awe of children’s minds; how they can absorb and retain information, their brilliant creativity and how they can improve across the whole curriculum (including foreign languages, science and maths) with a little help with their English. She studied Law at UCL, is a qualified solicitor, a published poet and has been a judge on the BBC 500 words competition.
