I run a Book Club in North London for a great bunch of 12-15 year olds. One of the children suggested we read ‘The Knife of Never Letting Go’, so we did! And since then we are in Patrick Ness fan club mode! Those that read ‘The Knife of Never Letting Go’ have gone on to read the sequels and we also read ‘The Rest of Us Just Live Here’. Here are some of the book club’s thoughts on your books. It’s not easy to get them to put pen to paper (unless they are writing a storythemselves!)….
Kind regards,
Helena
Dear Patrick Ness,
I read your book, ‘The Knife of Never Letting Go’ and I loved it! My favourite character was Manchee as I could really easily understand him. I really hated Aaron and I was so happy when he died. When Manchee died it made me really sad, but I loved Manchee when he said, ‘Poo, Todd, Poo’. I enjoyed the part when they were travelling through the herd singing ‘here’. The accent made the book more believable and I could picture Todd easier. I have also read ‘More than This’ and ‘A Monster Calls’ but ‘The knife of Never Letting Go’ was my favourite.
I read your book, ‘The Rest of Us Just Live Here’ and it was really good. The plot was amazing and I liked the fact that it was based on someone not involved in the main plot. The two stories running parallel blended really well. Jake aged 14
Dear Patrick Ness,
I liked ‘The Rest of Us Just Live Here’. It had a great plot because it was unique and funny. The base idea for the book was amazing and I’d never read something as interesting. Zaki aged 13
Dear Patrick Ness,
I have recently read your book ‘The Knife of Never Letting Go,’ with my Book Club and I am now writing to tell you how much I enjoyed reading it. The detail and the language used led me to be able to imagine exactly what was happening throughout the book. The plot was strong and creative. I have never read a book with a plot like this before. In addition, the characters were all different and believable. They also have intricate and well thought out backgrounds.
My favourite character was Manchee because of his personality. He didn’t really know what was going on and he gave a sense of humour to the book.
I have also read the other books in the series and ‘More than this’, they were also amazing! I am just starting ‘The Rest of Us Just Live Here’.
Thank you!
Yours sincerely, Z.R. aged 12
